GORDON L. HARRIS
WAUPACA, WISCONSIN
Gordon peacefully passed to eternal life at
Crystal River Nursing Home on February 10, 2010.
He was a young 95 year-old, born on August 7, 1914
in New London to the late Bert and Adlaide
(Goodacre) Harris. The third child in their family
of ten children, Gordon fondly remembered his life
in the country. On June 9th, 1934 Gordon married
Leona Gruenstern. During their 60 years together,
they worked their farm and until recently, Gordon
still grew a tomato plant on the patio. Gordon
was proud of the years he was a long haul trucker
for H.O. Wolding and other local companies. He was
Wolding's first driver ever to go into New York
City. Prior to farming, he was a supervisor for an
Allis Chalmers airplane supercharger plant in
Milwaukee, a part of the WWII effort. Gordon
loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed showing his
lifetime fishing license.
Gordon is survived by his brothers, Andrew and
Harold (Helen); sisters, Marion Goodacre, Tressie
Hunter, and Lucy (Laverne ) Miller; a
sister-in-law, Alice Harris; a brother-in-law,
Ceylon (Joyce) Gruenstern; numerous nieces and
nephews; and special friends, Barbara Vander
Zanden and Mark (Gayle) Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Leona Harris; three brothers, William, Leon,
and Forest Harris; and a baby sister, Elizabeth.
