Esther Nehring

August 27, 1919 - March 1, 2022

Esther Matilda Alma Yohr Nehring of Poy Sippi, WI, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. She was born on August 27, 1919, in the Town of Saxeville, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Koop Yohr. She was baptized on Sept. 21, 1919, and confirmed on April 10, 1933, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield, WI. Esther married Reinhold (Reine) Nehring on June 1, 1935. They were married just shy of 70 years when he passed. Esther enjoyed going for rides in the country and going out to eat. She also enjoyed watching Price is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Esther always looked forward to her yearly visits to the Ortman Clinic in South Dakota. She was Miss West Bloomfield and also Miss Hwy 49. After Esther and Reinhold left the farm, she worked at Pleasant View School, Brushville, as a cook’s aide. She also pumped gas and cleaned windows on vehicles which was customary then at the Sinclair, Texaco and the BP gas station on the corner of Cty H and Hwy 49. Later she was an assistant caretaker of the Poy Sippi, Auroraville and Brushville cemeteries. It was her responsibility to remove the sod and place it back when a grave was opened and closed. When cutting the grass, she would remove all grass clippings from the gravestones and trim around them. Esther is survived by her children Joann (B. Orville) Behm of Oshkosh, WI, Arlene (Doug) Sebstead of Fremont, WI, Sandra (Gary) Wolfe of Kaukauna, WI, Carlton (Bonnie) Nehring of Berlin, WI, Pastor Gary (Sharon) Nehring of Albion, MI, Monica (Ken) Larson of Neenah, WI and Kay (David) Niven of Manawa, WI; 25 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Betty Nehring of Weyauwega; half brother-in-law, Elmer Nehring, of Waupaca, plus nephews and nieces. Esther was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Anna Yohr; her husband Reinhold Nehring; her son Calvin Nehring; her grandson Carlton B. (Punky) Nehring; her granddaughter Pamela Larson; infant brother and sister; her twin sisters; two brothers-in-law and two nephews. The Christian Funeral for Esther will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield, WI, with Pastor Wayne Schwanke officiating. Burial will be at the Poy Sippi Cemetery. A visitation for Esther will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI, is assisting the family with arrangements. A special thanks to Pastor Schwanke and the Theda Care Hospice Team; also, to the staff at Juliette Manor in Berlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
