Alma M. Strebe

Alma (Hibsch) Strebe passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born April 7, 1923 in Hamburg, North Dakota, daughter of August and Sophie Hibsch. She grew up and attended school in North Dakota. During World War II, she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA, and then for the U.S. Navy at Mare Island Navy and Shipyard in Vallejo, CA. She was united in marriage to Robert Strebe on June 22, 1946. She and her husband operated Strebe Lumber from 1952-1960 in Sheridan and then moved to Waupaca. After retirement, she worked at Riverside Memorial Hospital in the sewing department for 17 years. Alma loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with her family including Alaskan and Caribbean cruises and European tours. She was a proud member of Farmington Lutheran Church where she sang with the choir for more than 50 years and was an avid quilter with the quilting group at the church. Grammie always made sure cookies were not a scarce treat during the years for her family. Alma is survived by her three children; James (Margo) Strebe of Little Rock, AR, Judy (Jon) Rohde of Appleton, and Joni (Mike) Radley of Waupaca; grandchildren; Stacey (Greg) Otwell, Kari (Paul) Phillips, Ann (Jeff) May, all of Little Rock, AR, Ashley (Holden) Gerner of Sun Prairie, WI, and Alana Radley of Waupaca, WI; 6 great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews; siblings; Maytha Buckman of Fort Atkinson, WI, Martha Schuster of Nashotah, WI, and Beverly (Duane) Larson of Fessenden, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Strebe; her parents, August and Sophie Hibsch; her siblings, Rudolph Hibsch, Emma Anderson, Leo Hibsch, and Betty Hibsch; three brothers-in-law, Howard Buckman, Harvey Schuster, and Marvin Anderson; and one sister-in-law, Lucille Hibsch. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Farmington Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI. A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. The burial will follow at the Farmington Lutheran Cemetery immediately following the service. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Bethany Home for their dedication and wonderful care to Alma over the past 3 ½ years, and to her doctors, Dr. Mike Bauer and Dr. Paul Sletten , for their great care Although her smile and gentle ways will be deeply missed, we rejoice in the fact that she had a deep faith and was assured of God’s love and is now living in paradise.
