Carl F. Bohman

On Saturday, February 18th, Carl Bohman, loving husband and father of 3 children passed away peacefully at age 79 surrounded by his close family. He was born in Amherst, Wisconsin, to Walter and Ruth (Iverson) Bohman on May 25, 1943. He received a Bachelor's degree from UW Stout in 1965, he was a Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and continued on with graduate work at the University of Minnesota. On July 2nd,1966 he married Diana (Schuster), his loving wife of 56 years. Their children are Gary, Amy, and Kurt. In his early life, he had an affinity for trains, rockets, robots, hydroplane boats, scuba diving, and science. As he started his professional career, he adapted his innovative spirit into a passion for everything he encountered at his workplace. There was nothing he couldn’t accomplish with time, a plan, and attention to details. This was made clear when he worked with NASA to build the onboard computers of the command guidance system in the Nike missiles. His achievements culminated in being awarded “Young Engineer of the Year” in 1975. When he was forced with one of the toughest decisions of his life to come home and run the Amherst telephone company, his adventurous spirit allowed him to completely integrate his technical engineering skills into a stagnant business. His dedication to excellence led him to be a director on both the International Bank of Amherst and the WSTA boards. His love of work was only matched by his fondness of travel, backpacking, and camping. As a young married couple, Carl and Diana were able to backpack into Mt. McKinley. His family vacations took them to all of the 50 states and to every province in Canada. From snorkeling in the Bahamas to chartering yachts all over the Caribbean, he was never afraid of an uncommon adventure. He also had a love for skiing, which he passed on to his children. Of the many passions he had, his children and grandchildren were his greatest. He understood the importance of creating a legacy by influencing those closest to him, planning for their future, and supporting their educational endeavors. His open-door policy allowed him to care and support many people regardless of the relation to him. Carl made a difference in so many people’s lives in unconventional ways that were sometimes hard to see at the time, but love and generosity were motives for all his actions. He was a very active member of Peace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Diana, sister Rita (Bob) Danielson, son Gary, daughter Amy (David) Blanco, son Kurt (Madel), Grandchildren, Venus, Devhan, Ben, J.C., Ralliegh, Shay, Johny, Vahla and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 11 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI. Pastor Gretchen Anderson will officiate with burial of cremains to be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday February 24, 2023 from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI and again on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at 11 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church.
