Frederick A. Rawson

Frederick Argo Rawson passed away on January 30, 2015. He was born on May 19, 1931, the son of Harry and Evelyn Rawson. Fred was employed at the Farmers State Bank of Waupaca and retired in 1999 as Senior Vice President and continued as a director of the bank for another 10 years with over 50 years of service to the bank. During his time at the bank he saw it grow and eventually move from the former Main Street location to the current location on Fulton Street. The fact that the bank was a locally owned institution that served his hometown for generations gave him a lot of pride. On September 27, 1958 he married Nancy Basford in Madison, WI. They met while both were attending college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Fred served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed at several bases in Europe and finally the newly established Wheelis Field in Tripoli, Libya. Growing up, Fred spent summers at the family cottage on Long Lake on the Chain and spent many hours with his dad row-trolling for trout, boating and skiing with friends. As a teenager he also achieved becoming an Eagle Scout. At one time Fred played golf quite a bit and was active at the Waupaca Curling Club. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and good friends. Trout fishing on area streams, musky fishing up North, Wolf River walleye and whitebass runs and duck and deer hunting around home. Fred was a natural wingshot and anyone that hunted with him saw him handle a shotgun with a lot of skill. He also enjoyed Trap and Skeet shooting and won many events over the years at gun clubs around the state and at the Waupaca Conservation League. Waupaca held the state skeet shoot for several years in the 1960’s. During that time he assisted with operations at the Waupaca club. Fred was a member of the Waupaca Lions Club, Waupaca Masonic Lodge, Waupaca VFW, American Legion, and a Life Member of the NRA. He served as an alderman in the City of Waupaca and was appointed to chair several city committees by various mayors. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, and a sister, Ramona Olson. Fred is survived by his sons Steve (Shannon) and Richard (Amy) and three granddaughters, Erin, Carrie and Hannah. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Home for the care that he received while staying there. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a Masonic Service to begin at 7:00 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Private Family Services will be held on Friday. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
