Alan D. Thompson's Obituary
ATTN: Due to Inclement Weather, todays service has changed to the Holly Funeral Home, 526 S. Main Street, Waupaca, WI 54981. Following the service, burial will be held at Spencer Lake Cemetery.
Alan Daniel Thompson, age 61, entered eternity on August 22, 2025.
Al was born on June 12, 1964, the youngest son of Bob and Grace (née Goldsmith) Thompson.
Gifted both athletically and musically, he competed at the state level in track and, entirely by ear, wrote music and played several instruments. Alan was unique, loving, inquisitive, funny, and engaging—always eager to learn something new from others or to celebrate their accomplishments and talents. Those who gathered with him knew the room grew a little brighter and a little wackier when he walked in, and more often than not, you left smiling and laughing because of him. “Uncle Al” will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, siblings, and all who knew him.
Alan was humble and fiercely independent, living his entire life that way. He relished the freedom of his motorcycle, which he rode faithfully until the day he passed. A lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, he never lived or worked more than two hours from Lambeau Field. As a charter bus driver, Al shared his joy and humor with countless passengers—students to seniors—and took great pride in getting them safely to their destinations. Alan was blessed to find love later in life, and he and his former wife Dory shared many happy times in the seven years they were married.
Alan is now free from pain and with the Lord. In his final days, God granted him peace and clarity to embrace the brevity of life and to look to Jesus as his Savior, ultimate healer, and giver of eternal life for him.
Alan was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Bob and Dolores Thompson, his mother Grace Seefeldt and by his brother, Tim (Lauri). He is survived by his siblings Randall Thompson, Bryan Thompson (Jan), Roger Thompson (Connie), and Lori Kenney (Jeff); many nieces and nephews and their families; and his former wife, Dory Thompson.
A graveside service will be held at Spencer Lake Memorial Park in Waupaca, WI (corner of County Road E and County Road EE) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. Indoor backup location will be provided at the cemetery in case of inclement weather. Chairs will be limited, feel free to bring a lawn chair and/or sun umbrella. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
