Albert "Al" F. Becker, Jr.'s Obituary
Albert F. Becker, Jr., age 79, of Waupaca, WI, passed away peacefully in his apartment on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Al was born February 21, 1944 in Milwaukee to Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Becker, Sr. Al grew up in an orphanage in Milwaukee until high school. He then went to live with his wonderful foster parents, Joe and Beverly Hames, and their two special sons, Dan and Paul Hames, who Al thought of as his own brothers. Al became a great basketball player in high school and later a terrific basketball coach.
After high school, Al spent three years in the U.S. Marine Corps with a year of duty in Vietnam. He later married Pat Steuerwald. Al attended college at UW-LaCrosse, Pillsbury Bible College, and graduated with a teacher’s degree in industrial arts from Mankato University in Minnesota.
Al taught industrial arts at Wild Rose High School and coached basketball there for three years. Later he left Wild Rose and taught industrial arts and coached basketball at Waupaca High School.
Al was very talented in carpentry and building. He built many grandfather clocks, furniture, unique tables, and decorative mirrors. Al loved to golf and spent many hours at the golf course with his pastor and friend, Pastor Larry Gross.
In his later years, Al had many health issues and now he is in Heaven with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. If you don’t know Jesus as your Savior, Al would be rejoicing that you give your life to Him.
Al is survived by one child Hailey Becker; two foster brothers Dan Hames and Paul Hames; his former wife Pat; and many former students and friends.
A special thank-you goes to the sisters at Main Street Marketplace; the many helpers at Waupaca Kwik Trip where he loved to shop; Larry Gross his helper, friend, and mentor; the Wisconsin Veterans Association; and the special nurses and police department who were always ready to help Al. Thank you very much for your care and kindness shown to Al.
A Funeral Service for Al will be on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI. Reverend Larry Gross will officiate.
