Don Danielson
On September 2, 1945 the treaty was signed ending WWII. Duffy was babysitting my sister Deanne and me. He told me my father, “Muggs” Danielson, would be coming home from the South Pacific after several years of military service. Papa had sent a Japanese bugle home as a souvenir. Mom Adelyn told me never to blow it. I asked Duffy if he would pour boiling water through the bugle to sterilize it. Didn’t mention Mom’s advice. Duffy poured a teakettle of boiling water through the bugle and I loaded Deanne in our “Black Bomber” wagon, pulled her up and down West Union Street blowing the Japanese bugle telling everyone “My Daddy is coming home.”
If Duffy was anything, he was an advocate for veterans — his entire life!
