ALBERT WILLIAM GRUER, JR.
WAUPACA, WISCONSIN
Age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI. He was born October 26, 1923 in St. Louis, MO; son of Albert W. Gruer, Sr. and Adelaide (Hauk) Gruer. From fall of 1942 through 1944, Al served in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific as pilot of a B-25 Mitchell. On March 6, 1948, Al married Gloria Forester in Webster Groves, MO. Al and Gloria moved to Waupaca in 1978 because he accepted a position as sales manager at Waupaca Foundry where he was employed until his retirement in 1988.
Al is survived by his wife: Gloria Gruer of Waupaca, WI; two daughters: Jacquelyn Gruer of Cincinnati, OH and Martha Gruer of Raynham, MA; one son: Jeffrey Gruer of Redwood City, CA; two granddaughters: Brenda McGourty of Fall River, MA and Jenna Gruer of St. Louis, MO; one grandson: Patrick Gruer of Boulder, CO; and a sister-in-law: Carol McSweeney of St. Louis, MO.
A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 3:30 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI. Reverend Dick Bidwell will officiate. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 – 3:30 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Rotary International Foundation, c/o Gary Thoe, N2644 Pleasant Park Lane, Waupaca, WI 54981. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
