Alexander J. Szymborski's Obituary
Alexander Joseph Szymborski, 92, of Readfield, WI, died April 18, 2017, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. He was born August 13, 1924 in South Milwaukee, WI, the son of Joseph and Marie (Wornetzka) Szymborski. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving in 8 major battles in the South Pacific. Alex and his brother, Leo Szymborski, survived the sinking of the USS Yorktown at the battle of Midway and served together on the USS West Virginia throughout the war. He married Betty Jane Maass on May 31, 1947 in South Milwaukee, WI. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1989. After working as a foreman at American Motors in Kenosha, WI, Alex later became a resort owner and Real Estate Broker in the Wild Rose area.
Survivors include a son, Wayne A. Szymborski of Neenah, WI, a daughter, Sharon McGivney of Humptulips, WA, a brother, Leo Szymborski of Waterford, WI, a sister, Eleanor Blavat of South Milwaukee, WI, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his dear friend, Catherine Retzlaff of Readfield, WI, his sisters, Helen Muszynski and Estelle Dennis of South Milwaukee, his brother, Joseph Szymborski of Sacramento, CA, and his grandson, Blaine Howard Gilmore of Oakland, CA. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday April 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Main Chapel on the grounds of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. A memorial visitation will be on Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of services at the Main Chapel. Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
