Alice Ann Braun's Obituary
Alice Ann Margarit (Bartel) Miller Braun
Iola, WI – Formerly Scandinavia WI
August 12, 1921 – June 23, 2017
- This world was given the gift of Alice, the daughter of Emmanuel and Meta (Prellwitz) Bartel on August 12th, 1921. Alice returned home peacefully, surrounded with the love of her family June 23rd 2017.
Alice grew up with God as her anchor and was confirmed on April 5th, 1936 at St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Bloomfield Wisconsin. She was married on her 18th birthday to Henry Miller who was tragically taken from her 27 years later in August of 1966. On May 1st, 1976, she married Carl Braun who passed away in 1995.
Alice never turned away someone in need. She was very fond of all of God’s creatures, especially those that “just needed a home” and over the years nursed countless orphaned animals. Some noted adoptees include fawns and lambs and more than one calf was bottle fed in Alice’s mud room. No matter what kind of stray you were, human or beast, there was always a place at Alice’s table.
Alice enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and made the best bread and spice cake, much to the delight of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren who, in turn, brought her endless joy. Alice also had “mad gravy skills” and was the go-to-gravy maker at every holiday dinner.
Alice was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She was witty and sassy and her laugh was breathless and contagious. She found humor where others weren't able and was a friend to all.
Waiting for Alice at Heaven’s gate with her parents Emmanuel and Meta were her husbands Henry and Carl; her sons Charles Henry Miller and Evan George Miller; her grandsons Raymond Cho Miller and Chris Winkler, four infant sons and an infant daughter; her sisters Lenore Bartel and Doris Peters; brothers George, Elmer, Orville, Arlie, Werner (Vernie) and Lyle Bartel as well as countless other friends and relatives.
Alice touched many lives in her 95 years here and will be missed horribly by those who she left behind. She is survived by her sons Donald L. Miller, King WI, David E. Miller and Raymond D. Miller, Scandinavia WI; daughter Judy M. Winkler (Ronald Sr.) Iola WI; brother DuWayne “Bud” Bartel (Alice), Ogdensburg, WI as well as twelve Grandchildren: Melissa, Sherri, Ryan, Ron Jr, Cho, Don Jr, Wendy, Michelle, Cory, Kathi, Tonya and Wendy; twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alice’s family would like to thank the staff at Iola Living Assistance for their kind care and recognize those that helped her daughter Judy while she took care of Alice in her home.
