Angelo Tomaras' Obituary
Angelo C. (Ange) Tomaras, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 23, 2005 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. He was born on September 17, 1924, in Chicago, IL., and spent his childhood there. At age 17 he joined the Army and eventually became a sergeant in the Military Police Unit, becoming a motorcycle rider and instructor during the European Theater of WW II. During the Normandy Invasion he and his unit landed on Omaha Beach after spending days at sea on a LST boat. When they finally reached the Beach, they rode their iron horses through the water, sand and up the hill. While in Europe, he also escorted both General Eisenhower and General Patton. After discharge, he was employed at Standard Oil Company in Chicago, where he met and married his wife, Lois, in 1946. After the birth of their first son, he moved the family to Waupaca, WI., in 1950. Here the family continued to grow to include two more sons and a daughter. Shortly after the move to Wisconsin, he bought a gas station, which he later sold to take a job as patrolman in the Waupaca Police Department. At that time he also joined the Waupaca Volunteer Fire Department and remained a volunteer for 47 years. Upon leaving the Waupaca Police Department, he became a journeyman electrician for Uptown Electric and later a foreman for Superior Electric until he retired at age 62. During this time he continued as a volunteer fireman and advanced to Third Assistant Chief and Safety Officer. After retiring from Superior Electric, he began another career working with his son at Waupaca Area Ambulance transporting wheelchair bound patients, scheduling drivers and performing vehicle maintenance. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had formerly served as a church council member and as head usher. He and his wife were married for 59 years. Survivors include his wife: Lois Tomaras, Waupaca, WI; son, Dean (Pam Duchateau) Tomaras, Appleton, WI; daughter, Wendy (Geoff Johnson) Buck, Waupaca, WI; son, Barry (Mary Jo) Tomaras, Waupaca, WI; son, Tracy (Joan) Tomaras, Waupaca, WI; Grandchildren: Jeremy (Erica) Tomaras, Deer Island, OR; Amber Tomaras, Madison, WI; Lindsay Tomaras, Fort Myers, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Antonia Tomaras; a grandson - Chad Buck and a brother - Harry Tomaras. He was a remarkable man who touched many lives and will be sadly missed.
Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28th, with Reverend Dr. Charles Tews officiating. Interment will be in the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, WI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of service at the church.
