Anna M. Whitney's Obituary
Anna Mary (Lodel) Whitney, age 95, of King, WI, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King. She was born in Casco, Wisconsin in the town of Carlton on September 25, 1918 to Joseph and Mary (Valenta) Lodel. Upon the death of her mother when Anna was seven years old she along with her family moved to the home of her paternal grandparents Frank and Anna (Hallada) Lodel in Tish Mills Wisconsin.
Anna worked in the office at Hamilton Mfg. Co in Two Rivers for 20 plus years until her marriage on March 26,1966 to Elmer "Red" Whitney in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They lived in Milwaukee until purchasing a gas station/garage in Neosho, Wisconsin. Upon retirement they spent summers in Waupaca and winters in Tucson and Sierra Vista Arizona.
Since 1988, Elmer and Anna have resided at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King Wisconsin. Anna enjoyed volunteering at King, family reunions, visiting favorite restaurants and crocheting. She created many afghans for her family, friends and the craft store at the Veterans Home.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer "Red" Whitney, his children Dennis (Jackie) Whitney, Luanne (Wally) Reich, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Two Sisters- Lillian Finnel, Green Bay, Wisconsin and Rose Steinhorst, Denmark, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-law, George and Eleanor Lodel, brothers-in-law, Bernard Finnel and John Steinhorst.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Chapel at Olson Hall at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King WI, with Rev. Ted Lewandowski, officiating. Burial will be held at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King. Family and friends may visit on Friday, from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Anna's name to Wisconsin Veterans Home Activities Department - Ainsworth Hall.
