Arden Allen, 57, of Amherst Junction passed away on January 6, 2011 after a long illness. Art was born on November 7, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI, the son Lindy and Lois (Laabs) Allen. He moved with his family to the Amherst area in 1956, and graduated from Amherst High School in 1971. He enlisted in the Army when he was 17, and served in Vietnam with Company E, 124th Maintenance Batallion, 2nd Armored Div., 5th Army. He was honorably discharged on June 23, 1973.
Art was a simple man who loved the simple things in life, including hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and asparagus, and cooking. He regarded good conversation with good friends as one of his favorite pastimes.
Art is preceded in death by his father, Lindy Allen, his mother, Lois Hedbany, his step-father Joseph Hedbany, his brother Glen Allen, step-brother and step-sister-in-law; Arnold and Marie Hedbany, father-in-law; Gerald Baggot, and his faithful friend and companion; Moses. Surviving is his best friend and wife, Mary Allen; son Todd (Danette) Stiteley, son Tim (Jamie) Stiteley, daughter Stephanie Allen; grandchildren Marianne Rose Jensen and Ethan Nicholas Stiteley; sisters Linda (Ron) Konkol and Holly (Daren) Lukes, sister-in-law; Sandie Allen, step-sister; Evonna (Frederick) Baehner, half-sister Bonnie (Charles) Frank, and mother-in-law; Mary Baggot. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Military Honors will be observed following the funeral service. A visitation will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Aspirus Wausau Cancer Center in Wausau, WI or the Salvation Army in memory of Arden L. Allen. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Special thanks to Aspirus Wausau Cancer Center and Aspirus Hospital for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown throughout the years. A very special thanks to Doctor Hamied R. Rezazadeh for his amazing support, and Mike Clements, Portage County Veterans service officer, who’s guidance was invaluable.
