Arthur Haviland
Almond, WI Age 95 – died on Friday, July 31, 2009 at his residence in Almond. He was born on May 10, 1914 in Humboldt County, Iowa, the son of David “Dee” Akin and Frances Almyra (Parsons) Haviland. He married Gladys Thompson on March 27, 1937 in Humboldt, IA. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1981. His second marriage was to Doris Piorier in 1984. They were divorced. He married Arvilla Ammel on July 21, 1994. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2005. Arthur is survived by two daughters; Susan (Roy) Erickson of Eagle Grove, IA, and Sara “Sally” Yohn of Plainfield, ten grandchildren; Monte (Melody) Erickson, Marcy (Bill) Bertran, Loree (Ronnie) Ellis, Tracy (Peggy) Erickson, Jill (David Schaefer) Erickson, Jared (Kayla) Erickson, Marty (Jamy) Yohn, Ronald (Laura) Yohn, Debra Yohn, Elizabeth (Larry) Johnston. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and 4 step-great great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, three brothers; Don, Harold, and Daniel Andrew Haviland, and three sisters; Helen Dean, Kathryn Bergeson, and Elizabeth Dearinger Crouse. Arthur had been a farmer for most of his working life. He was a member of the Almond United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, and wood working. He also loved the time he could spend with family and friends. A funeral service will be held at the Almond United Methodist Church in Almond, WI on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend David Leistra, officiating. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, IA at a later date. A visitation will be held at the Almond United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday from Noon until the time of the service. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.
