Ausma Jaunkalnietis' Obituary
Ausma E. Jaunkalnietis, age 88, of Almond, WI, passed away Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. She was born in Riga, Latvia on December 14, 1920, the daughter of Janis and Alise (Rudzitis) Nusbaums. Ausma was married to Valentins in her native Latvia. During WWII, with Soviet advance on Latvia, ended up in a displaced persons camp in Fishbach, Germany by Nurnberg. In 1949, Ausma came to Wisconsin in Marathon County with her husband and children and they moved to Racine a short time later. She worked at Western Publishing for thirty years, retiring as a Journeymen Bookbinder. Ausma was also a Stanley Home Products salesperson. She married Voldimars Macins in Racine. They moved to rural Almond after her retirement. She was reunited in marriage with Valentins in 1995. Ausma was a life-long opera lover, gardener, and also a food channel fan. She was a member of Badger Chapter of Portage County Assoc. for Home and Education, Waupaca Community Choir, Waupaca Garden Club, and Wisconsin Rapids Latvian Lutheran Congregation. She also had a special love for the Riga Opera House, and an active interest in several Latvian organizations. She is survived by Husband: Valentins Jaunkalnietis, Almond, WI; Children: Valdis (Lloyce) Jaunkalnietis, Pleasanton, CA; Juris Jaunkalnietis, Racine, WI; Ilze Jaunkalnietis, Racine, WI; Nora (Antonio) Macins-Pavao, Racine, WI; Sister: Lauma, Riga, Latvia; Niece: Aija Jurkis; Step Grandchildren: Aaron & Stephen. She is further survived by Godchildren, relatives and friends in Latvia, and her many friends & neighbors in the Racine and Waupaca areas. Ausma was preceded in death by her parents, and a husband, Voldemars Macins. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with Reverend Lauma Zusevics officiating. Interment of cremains of will be held at a later date. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
