Bernice V. Anderson's Obituary
Bernice V. Anderson, age 99, of Wautoma, formerly of rural Wild Rose, passed away on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at Heartland House in Wautoma, surrounded by her family. She was born at home Almond on October 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Alfred and Freda (Boelter) Heller.
Bernice married Harry Anderson on May 26, 1945 in Wautoma. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1970.
Bernice was proud of the fact that she was a hard worker her whole life. As a young woman she helped run a family farm including taking care of animals, keeping the farm in good repair, and tending an enormous vegetable garden with various fruit trees. She was also well known as a great cook! The whole family can still remember the smell of her fresh bread and chocolate cake. Even when the farm was no longer operating, she still cooked enough to feed a whole thrashing crew and she canned so much you could survive an apocalypse in her root cellar. Later in life she cooked and cleaned outside the home at various places including Little Silver, Wild Rose Hospital, and Rosemore Village. This hard work left her with a strong back and strong hands and probably contributed to her living to just 3 months shy of her 100th birthday. Bernice loved the outdoors and remarked daily on the beauty of nature - a pretty view, a sunset - and loved animals, especially birds. She was a member of Mount Morris Holden Lutheran Church.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Shirley (nee Anderson) Kitchen, Beaver Dam; her son Danny (Cindy) Anderson, Wild Rose; grandsons: Christopher Anderson (partner Beth Wagner), Menasha and Nathan, Kaukauna, WI; granddaughters Dawn Kitchen (husband Jim Nicholson), Mansfield Ohio and Dana Kitchen, St. Louis Park, MN, great grandsons Dylan and Nash Nicholson, a beloved cat named Duke, various nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Bernice is preceded in death her husband, her son Lee ("PZ"), her son-in-law Jeff Kitchen, her parents, her twin sister Beatrice Simenson, and four other siblings (Raymond Heller, Theresa Vroman, Evelyn Vroman, and Arnold Heller).
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose at 7 PM on Friday, July 16th, 2021, with Reverend Dr. Karen Rendall, officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16th, from 5 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice's name may be made to the Wild Rose Milling Co. Restoration Project.
