Bernice I. Erickson's Obituary
Bernice Irene (White) Erickson
It is with great sadness that the family of Bernice announces her passing on Sunday July 21, 2024 at age 92. Bernice was the daughter of Gladys and Alonzo White, born in Menomonie Wisconsin. At the age of 17 she married Lyle Erickson, who died in 1960 from a car crash, leaving her as a single Mom. They had four children: Julie (Jerry) Wirl, Lucinda (Kevin) Weinfurter Hamm and twin boys (Dwight and Dwayne) who died shortly after birth.
She had nine grandchildren: Corinna (Will) Neeb, Wendy (John) Vanatta, Chris (Jami) Wirl, Darcy (Jon) Syverson, Kelly (Jon) Miltimore, Deanna (Ryan) Rands, Matt Wirl, Dan (Jenny) Wirl, Kimberly Wirl (Peter). Also twelve great grandchildren: The Vanatta’s: Avery, Lucy (in heaven), Phoebe, and Jack. The Syverson’s: Evan and Brylie. The Miltimore’s: Bret, Bronson, Becket. The Gesler’s: Gavin & Gage (Mom Kim Wirl) and Mitch Drake (Mom Jenny Wirl).
Her early work life included working in grocery stores, waitressing and 27 years of in-home care for the elderly. Her real passion was playing and singing Country Western music. In the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, she was a member of prominent bands at all of the “Hot Spots” in Wisconsin Rapids. Saying she was a creative person was an understatement. After retirement she wrote two Western novels (one while isolated due to the pandemic), many short stories, and she was writing her Life Story. She loved a challenge like learning how to paint with acrylics, or creating all kinds of recipes, and doing any craft (bow making, dotzing, crocheting). More fun was Boggle, Bingo or playing cards. Although she was a strong believer in Organic food, making “everything from scratch” and cooking for an army; the 50 years of smoking when she was young took a toll on her body and she died from a number of small strokes.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
