Betty Wanta-Thompson's Obituary
Betty Wanta-Thompson 87, died peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday September 24, 2025 at home.
Betty was born April 13th, 1938 in the Township of Stockton to the late Ambrose and Martha Sankey. Betty married her late husband Leo and shared many great years together before his passing. She met Lynn Thompson later in life and they married July 10th, 2004 at Fancher Catholic Church in Amherst, WI. They have shared a lifetime of love, laughter and partnership.
Betty was known as a social butterfly; she enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was a proud member of TOPS weight loss club. She had many hobbies including playing pinochle, shopping, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed fishing trips including a trip to Canada with her son Roger. Betty was proud of all her grandkids and great grandkids and was devoted to spending time with them.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn Thompson, her brother Greg (Jane) Sankey, Sister Linda Krusa, son Roger (Sue) Wanta, daughters Karen (Randy) Schultz and Vicky (Joe) Wanta, her grandchildren Amy (Tony) Ventura, Chris (Rachel) Wanta, Aubrey Wanta, Jennifer Miner, Lynsey Schultz and Ryan Schultz. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ambrose and Martha Sankey, her late husband Leo Wanta, brothers Mike and Chet Sankey, sisters Dorothy Groshek and Geraldine Kurkowski.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday October 13, 2025 at 12 p.m. at St James Catholic Church (453 S Main St Amherst, WI 54406). A memorial gathering will be held on Monday October 13, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m.at the church.
Betty’s family would like to send their gratitude to the staff at Compassus hospice especially her nurse Courtney.
