Sorry - I submitted this a hour or two ago but just realized that I mentioned the wrong reunion - it was our 35th not 25th. The corrected memory is below. Sincerely, Allen Huffcutt
I went to high school with Bruce and we both graduated in the same year (1978 - long, long ago it seems). I have a memory from middle school actually where Bruce and another boy also of large stature were trying to push each other around. Bruce was so strong and vibrant then. Not too many years after we graduated from high school I saw him again and he was in a wheelchair, which was very sad and hard to see. I lost track of him then until our 35th high school reunion in 2013. He didn't go, but I found out where he was and visited him in the nursing home. Although still in a wheelchair, he was strong and vibrant and cheery. In fact, he was outside enjoying the sunshine and even flirting a little with the nurses. To use his own words, he considered himself "damn lucky" in life. What an example for the rest of us. I was back up to Waupaca earlier this month (I now live in Illinois - not by choice but because of work) and heard his name mentioned in the prayer roll at Trinity Lutheran Church. I stopped over and was shocked at how much he had declined from last summer. I will always treasure the association I had with Bruce. I have complete confidence that Bruce still lives and is now in a far, far better place. Till we meet again my friend. Sincerely. Allen Huffcutt
