Byron L. Bossart's Obituary
Byron L. "Bud" Bossart, age 85, formerly of Racine, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Tuesday December 30, 2014. Byron was born in Madison, WI on October 8, 1929, the son of Otto and Bertha (Boer) Bossart. Raised in Racine, he graduated from Washington Park High School. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Byron had a lifelong love of cars and planes. He was a lifetime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and volunteered at the Racine EAA Chapter. He was also a member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) where he built and raced sports cars for decades. Byron was fortunate to have met many of the world's most famous pilots and drivers, but it was the friendships he had with his fellow airplane and car enthusiasts that truly enriched his life.
For most of his life, Bud's love of cars extended into his work. In the early 1960's he helped establish one of the Midwest's early Volkswagen dealerships in Wheaton, IL. Later, he retired from Subaru Mid-America.
Travel was another passion, but no matter where he went, Alaska always held a special spot in his heart. Those that love him hope he finds peace and joy in his next journey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte, and sister-in-law Nancy Bossart. He is survived by his two daughters: Laura Hanneman and her daughter, Jessica of Prescott, WI; Susan Camp and her son, Austin and daughter, Madison of Plano, TX; and his brother, John Bossart of Sandusky, OH; niece Gretchen Homerick and nephews Charles and John Bossart all from Ohio.
