Byron was a kind, interesting, and dedicated man. Few were as committed to water quality in Wisconsin as he was. It was an honor to have had him as my advisor for both my Bachelors degree and Masters degree in water resources.
Byron guided me through a myriad of papers presented at State water quality conferences and after several presentations he unselfishly crossed his name off a draft of a paper I had written with his help and he told me then that from now on I was to list just my name on papers, giving me full credit even if he had contributed.
Byron had a great ability to train and help his students acquire positions in the water field. He would introduce me to many people in the water arena in the State. He hired me to the Environmental Task Force Lab in the CNR at UWSP in 1993 and kept me until I left in 1999. Because of the education and on the job experience I received from Byron, it was largely because of him that I made it into the US Geological Survey in 1999.
Byron was one of the most dedicated individuals in Wisconsin to protect the health of our ground and surface waters in our State.
Byron Shaw, I salute you!
