Carol A. Shulfer's Obituary
Carol Ann (Patoka) Shulfer, an energetic and caring wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022, at the age of 73 due to a hemorrhagic stroke.
Carol was born on October 20, 1948, and raised on a farm in the Town of Lanark by her parents Victor and Pearl (Konkol) Patoka. Growing up as a big sister, she helped to raise her three younger siblings Wayne (Bonnie), Bonita (Robert Patoka), and Tom.
Carol graduated from Amherst High School in 1966 and began a long, successful career in telecommunications at Sentry Insurance, retiring after 40 years of service. In retirement she enjoyed volunteering at St Michael’s Hospital, finding joy in helping others and meeting many wonderful friends.
After marrying her high school sweetheart, Ronald Shulfer, in 1967, they raised children Steve (Nicole) and Rebecca (Nate Menzel), and resided in the Town of Stockton for their entire marriage.
Anyone traveling the country roads in Stockton would surely have encountered Carol walking, likely with dog(s) in tow. She loved chatting with all of her wonderful friends, gardening, tending to her flowers, eating ice cream, spending time on Whitefish Lake in Lac du Flambeau, relaxing on the porch swing at the cabin, organizing the best scavenger hunts for her grandkids, and continually remodeling the interior of their house. Carol cared for all, continuously trying to comfort and offer help to anyone in need. Her seemingly endless supply of energy kept her motivated and moving, while her sharp sense of humor and ability to find the unique qualities in others allowed her to quickly make long lasting friendships. She was fun-loving, and never afraid to be silly.
A celebration of life and Christian burial services will be held on October 20, 2022, with visitation starting at 8:00 am, followed by memorial service at 9:30 am - all at St Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Fancher, 3995 County Road K, Amherst, WI, 54406. Burial of Cremains will be in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery in the town of Stockton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Portage County, as affirmation of her dear love for animals.
She is survived by her husband Ron, siblings Bonnie and Tom, her children and their spouses Steve (Nik) and Becki (Nate), and seven beautiful grandchildren: Bailey, Emily, Peyton, Tyson, Macie, Trevan, and Grayson; as well as her beloved pet Larry, the rescue dog. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Pearl, and her brother Wayne.
Carol, Mom, Grandma, we’ll always remember you at your happiest, at the end of a busy, fun-filled day up north at the cabin, sitting on the porch swing with a drink by your side and a dog by your feet. Swinging gently back and forth. Peaceful, content, reflective, and a glimmer in your eye as sunsetting rays of light dance across the lake.
