Carolyn V. Chandler's Obituary
Carolyn Klutz-Chandler passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at Point Manor assisted Living. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul Chandler. Her children Scott (Jennifer) and Melanie Voll (Ken) and her Grandchildren Ashlyn, Danica, Aubrey, Alex and Braeden. Waiting to greet her in Heaven were her Parents Joseph and Gertrude Klutz, her sister Donalee Markiewicz and her Precious Granddaughter Alexis Anne Chandler.
Carolyn was a Hoosier at heart always, hailing from South Bend Indiana and was a 1964 Graduate of St. Joseph High School. Carolyn wore many hats, literally and figuratively. In Recent years she would be easily recognized by one of her many “blingy” hats usually adorned with sequins or sparkles. In her youth she was an avid swimmer and loved her jobs as Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. She also had an eye for home decorating and had a long career with the home based business Home Interiors. Moving to Avon Lake Ohio in 1988 she was hired on the spot by the company that was hired to decorate the model home that she and Paul purchased.
Shortly after the move to Ohio, she began working as a medical billing specialist. She worked for independent doctors, billing companies and finally the Cleveland Clinic where she was regarded as the authority on reimbursement for the Gamma Knife Center. Proud as she was of her career, she was never a fan of the “rat race” and commute to downtown Cleveland. She joyfully retired as soon as she was able and did what she said she always wanted, moved closer to her grandchildren.
In 2008 she and Paul moved to Amherst Wisconsin and she enjoyed Ashlyn and Aubrey’s Softball games and Braeden’s baseball, basketball and football. She also relished her trips back to Ohio and would love to come in the Spring for Danica’s ice show and Alex’s hockey and lacrosse.
Carolyn loved to travel and went to Europe by herself as a recent High School graduate knowing when she married Paul in 1968, he had no interest in international travel. She and Paul did have some terrific travel adventures though, together, they saw all 50 states including 3 trips to Hawaii, an epic Alaska adventure and a harrowing 3 week trip out west in 1986 (in a compact car with two children).
Carolyn loved life and her friends and frequently reminded her loved ones that you will never regret money spent on photos or travel. So take the trip, and buy the pictures. She also appreciated good food, especially sweets like ice cream and chocolate. Some of her most memorable advice was to always eat your favorite thing on the plate first, so you don’t get to full to enjoy it.
If you knew Carolyn, you probably know her favorite color was pink. To honor her memory, please if you can wear pink on the day of her funeral.
