Charles R. Barden's Obituary
Charles Richard Barden, age 84, of Scandinavia, WI, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Waupaca Elder Care in Waupaca, WI.
Charles was born on June 19, 1937 in the township of Buena Vista, WI; son of the late Charles and Leone (Madson) Barden. As a young man, Charles worked on their family farm and others and graduated from Amherst High School in 1955.
On June 2, 1956, he married his fellow classmate, Mary Schnell and worked on several farms, raising their young family. In 1966, they bought 280 acres outside of Scandinavia, WI where Charles farmed until his retirement. During that time, Charles played slow pitch softball in Scandinavia and participated on the local volunteer fire department. He filled a handful of other roles during his career, hauling livestock, working at the Scandinavia Co-op, and for his daughters’ businesses.
In retirement, he continued to maintain a small herd of cattle and restored a 1949 Chrysler DeSoto with his daughter and son-in-law. Charles enjoyed watching westerns and sports, faithfully watching the Packers and often seen attending his children and grand-children’s sporting events.
Together, they had six children. Charles was preceded in death by two sons, Randy and Brian. He is survived by his wife, Mary; and children, Cheryl (Mike) Duberstein, Kathy (Dan) Remington, Mark (Lori) Barden, and Dan (Cori) Barden; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Charles will be honored in a celebration of life ceremony in Spring of 2022.
