Charles E. Weisbrod's Obituary
CHARLES E. WEISBROD Age 88, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 surrounded by his family at Bethany Home. Charles was born in Nelsonville, WI on October 5, 1923, the son of the late John and Myrtle (Diver) Weisbrot. He graduated from the Jerome Nelson Grade School in Nelsonville and from Amherst High School. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the US Army and was honorably discharged in1946. He served our country well. He did his basic training at Camp McCain in Mississippi; was sent to Turner Field, Georgia, where he guarded German prisoners; transferred to Denver, Colorado, Fitzsimmons Hospital where he learned to be an Infantry Aid Man and was then assigned to a hospital in the Philippines. Charlie loved life! He tells of his trip aboard a Liberty Ship made by Kaiser Aluminum and how his life was spared by the captain of a Japanese submarine who did not want to waste his ammunition on a few men that were on board. After serving our country during WWII, he went to Technical School to become a welder. He did his apprenticeship with his dad in his blacksmith shop in Nelsonville; worked in Milwaukee; and then worked with his dad until he bought his own shop in Waupaca, later taking in a partner, Russ Weisen. He worked there until his retirement. He married Delphine Palash on July 29, 1950 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. Charlie was a Waupaca Volunteer Fireman, a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, and was a Knights of Columbus member. He enjoyed his family, the friendship of his in-laws, bowling with the men's league, and also with his wife in the couples' league. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and discussing politics. Anne Moore of Kaukauna, WI He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Weisbrod; and a sister, Helen Ruth (Tom) Sherburne. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, WI. Father Brian Belongia will preside. A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 - 11:00 AM at the church. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery following the mass on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
