Charles E. Heiting
King, WI (Formerly of West Bend, WI) Age 96 - died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. He was born on July 10, 1913 in Thorp, WI, the son of Frank and Cecelia (Broeren) Heiting. He married LaVern Chapman on November 10, 1945 in West Bend, WI. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1995. Charles had been employed as a machinist for the Washington County Highway Department for many years, retiring in 1978. Following his retirement he moved to Crandon, WI and resided there until he moved to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in November of 1998. Charles had served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and had been involved in many battles in the Pacific Theater. He had been a member of VFW posts in Barton, WI and Crandon, WI. Charles loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and canoeing. He is survived by five brothers-in-law; Jerome Chapman, Raymond (Helen) Chapman, Leroy (Charlotte) Chapman, Richard (Lee) Chapman, and Clarence Chapman, and two special god children; nephew Charles Chapman and niece Mary Ann Cleary. He is further survived by many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, LaVern Heiting, his parents, four brothers; Harry, Ben, Francis, and Norbert, three sisters; Evelyn, Mamie, and Elaine, two sisters-in-law; Dolores Chapman and Clara Chapman, and two brothers-in-law; Elmer Chapman and Eugene Chapman. A memorial service will be held at the Main Chapel of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Military Honors and interment will follow in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King, WI. A visitation will be held at the Main Chapel at King on Thursday morning from 10:30 – 11:00 AM. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
