I had the opportunity to spend a year as an exchange student with the Coenen family. My entire year with Cyndy and her family is a wonderful memory and had a profound impact on my whole life. I felt Cyndy’s warmth and empathy every day. I remember once, while vacuuming, I accidentally sucked one of my earrings into the vacuum. Cyndy insisted that we search the entire vacuum bag for the earring, and we kept looking until we found it. Cyndy remains in my memory as someone who was so supportive, warm-hearted, and a little crazy.

My Fondest memory of Cindy was meeting her for the first time in her big beautiful kitchen where she cooked an amazing meal and hosted twenty guests before a ski race in Iola. I was welcome to stay at her home and eat with her even though she just met me that day. She acted as if she had known me for years. It was beautiful.
For the few years that I lived in Amherst, Cyndy and Glenn welcomed me into their 4th of July parade entry. Such fun! Cyndy was a fun partner in playing games like Poop Smoothie. She and I enjoyed talking about writing and dancing to the tunes of Baba Ganooj. She often asked me to request Brown Eyed Girl! When the Necedah Wildlife Refuge sold the National Park passes, she drove over and we bought ours together. I will miss her warmth and beautiful smile.
Surely Poppy, so many were attracted to your light like moths to a flame, and you considered every moth to be a beautiful and made them feel loved. Thank you for letting me be a part of your wonderful orbit. Knowing you and your family has impacted me in so many ways, and I am forever grateful and will miss you dearly.
Cyndi visited my parents-Lorend & Florence Severson with her care job -at my home which became the Coenen home. My parents thought the world of Cyndi & I know they are happy in heaven as they watched the special family enjoy days, weeks, years & lots of wonderful memories there. Blessings from the Berg family.
