Darwyn "Smokey" Floyd Olson's Obituary
Darwyn "Smokey" F. Olson, age 80 of Safford, AZ passed away on Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI.
Darwyn was born on January 7, 1935 to the late Martin and Orpha (Ward) Olson in Fordville, ND. He joined the Air Force on September 10, 1954 in Fargo, ND and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1958 in Arlington, VA. He enjoyed working as a carpenter for many years. Darwyn moved to WI Veterans Home in 2014 and enjoyed all of the staff. He would always have his candy bowl ready for when the nurses walked into his room. Darwyn also enjoyed feeding the squirrels peanuts, and watching the Packer games.
Darwyn is survived by his spouse, Shirley of Safford, AZ; sons, Jeff (Bonnie) Olson of Oregon, WI, Jerry (Gina) Olson of Cottage Grove, MN, Joe (Kelly) Olson of Bear Creek, WI and John (Lynette) Olson of Madison, WI; step-children, Suzie (Chuck) Ruston, Robert (Antonette) Brown and James (Sandy) Brooks; grandchildren, Jeff (Erin) Olson, Flory (Micha) Udenby, Tae Olson, Minji Olson, Anika Olson, Emily (Andy) Speropulos, Amanda Olson, Danielle (Scott) Arthur, Rebecca (Garret) Denney, Jessica (Jonathan) Martin, Benjamin Olson, Katelyn Olson and Joan Olson; also many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Darwyn is preceded in death by his brother, Gene Olson. The family of Darwyn would like to extend their gratitude for the loving care the staff at WI Veterans Home has done for them.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15th at WI Veterans Home Main Chapel. Chaplain Rich Engle is officiating. Military Honors will follow services. Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
