David "Dave" Stoltz's Obituary
David “Dave” J. Stoltz, 78, of Amherst passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 surrounded by family. Dave was born in Stevens Point on July 12, 1945 to the late Stanley and Erna (Marquard) Stoltz. He married Kathy (Trzebiatowski) on July 24, 1965. Dave graduated from high school at PJ Jacobs in 1963. He worked various jobs growing up, but he made his career as a union railroad engineer for Soo Line, from which he proudly retired in 1989. After his retirement he enjoyed working at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel (Fancher) as their handyman for over 25 years. He was also a lifelong member of the Tomorrow River Conservation Club where he served 15 years as treasurer. He found joy in tinkering in his garage, visiting and helping his neighbors, but mostly driving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around in all his toys. If you didn't find him in his garage, you would find him in the woods. Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He was a man of God; who led with honor and commitment, a believer in selfless service who was guided by the highest standards of ethics, morals, and principals. Dave's legacy will be ever-lasting.
He will be dearly missed by all his family, friends and neighbors. Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Penny Oliver, and son Mark (Jane Slater) Stoltz; six grandchildren Ashley (Oz) Oswald, Selena (Nick) Makuski, Morgan (Liam) Beard, Beka (Leo) Yenter, Brody Stoltz, and Jesse Oliver; five great-grandchildren, Declan and Parker Beard, Brantley Yenter, Lincoln Oswald and baby Makuski and brothers William “Bill” Stoltz, Daniel Stoltz and Ronald (Kathy) Stoltz.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Erna Stoltz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2023 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church-Fancher. Father Jerzy Rebacz will officiate. A visitation will be held on Tuesday September 5, 2023 from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst with a Rosary service at 7 P.M. and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 A.m. until the time of the service at 11 A.M.
Per Dave's request, in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for the Restoration Fund for St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
