Donald E. Peskie's Obituary
Donald “Don” Peskie, age 85, of Amherst, WI, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Living Oaks Assisted Living in Iola, WI, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s for over two decades.
He was born on January 22, 1937 in the Town of Carson, Portage County, WI; son of Emil A. and Regina C. (Radomski) Peskie. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI in 1963. He later earned a Masters in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. He served his country in various civil service positions, including financial management within the comptroller’s office of the Department of the Navy and Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
On October 12, 1963, Don married Gertrude “Gertie” M. Somers of Amherst, WI. They lived predominantly in the state of Virginia and returned to Wisconsin in 1995 upon retirement. Don and Gertie participated in the Parkinson’s Support Group of Stevens Point and Appleton. Don had a great enthusiasm for polka music and dancing. He pursed an interest in computer electronics and audio equipment.
Don is survived by his grand-daughter Rayne M. Peskie of Stradford, VA; one sister Grace A. Peskie of La Grange, IL. Besides his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one son Karl Peskie; his step-father, Harry Peskie and his brother Roger N. Peskie a/k/a Craig Nichols.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery – Fancher in Amherst, WI. A visitation will be held at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Tuesday at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Amherst, WI. Burial will take place at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery immediately after the visitation with full military honors.
