Donald J. Spierings' Obituary
Donald J. Spierings passed away at home on July 23, 2026. He was born on September 28, 1943, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Gertrude (Nackers) Spierings.
Don graduated from St. John’s High School in Little Chute, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army while pursuing a career in the grocery business. His career eventually led him and Janet to establish their own grocery store in Amherst, Wisconsin. After Janet’s passing in 2001 Don was blessed to find and go on to marry Muriel. After he retired from the “store” Don was an active member of the local community taking on several roles in the Town of Amherst. Don’s other interests included hunting, fishing, woodworking. He especially cherished breakfast with friends and playing cribbage and other card games with friends and family. His greatest joy was spending time with all of the grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Muriel Spierings; his children, Christopher (Dawn) Spierings and Kelly (Bryan) Aspen; his grandchildren, Riley (Elise) Aster, Mitchell Spierings, Aubrey (Ossian) Redwood, Kathryn Spierings, Arin Spierings, and Timothy Spierings; his stepchildren, Suzanne (Kerry) Romsa, Valerie McDowell, David McDowell, and Patricia (Kris) Sjogren; his step-grandchildren, Kayley Lutz and McKenzie Sjogren; and his siblings, Judy (Thomas) Helf, Susan (Albert) Christensen, and Karen Spierings.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Spierings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 31, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst, WI. Father Jerzy Rebacz will officiate. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday July 30, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI and again on Friday at St. James Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass at 11 a.m. Burial of cremains will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
