Donald W. Nelson's Obituary
Mr. Donald W. Nelson, age 74, of Waupaca, Wisconsin , passed away Thursday, June 7th, 2007 at Appleton Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Don was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 17, 1933, he was the son of the late John E and Florence (Dupre) Nelson. On Aug 11, 1954, he married Joann Bowlby in Appleton. Don graduated from Appleton High School in 1951. He attended UW Fox Valley for 2 years, and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. Don owned and operated Nelson's Standard Gas Station in Appleton for 13 years. He was the manager of the maintenance department at Fox Valley Technical College and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Fox River Racing Club. He enjoyed NASCAR, watching the Green Bay Packers boating and woodworking. He is survived by his Wife: Joann Nelson, Waupaca; Sister in law: Jan (Tom) Mack, Wausau; Niece: Julie Mack, Bloomington, Ill.; Nephews: David (Karen) Mack, Hatley; John (Katie) Mack, St. Paul, MN. Great Nieces & Nephews: Jennifer & Justin Mack Quinn, Clara & Aidan Mack. Special Family Friend: Margaret Hippler. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and son: James Nelson on May 22, 1981.
Funeral Service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 9th, with Father James Vennix officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery Waupaca, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held Saturday 9:30 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Appleton Medical Center-Foundation 1818 N. Meade St Appleton, WI. 54911 or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Staff of Appleton Medical Center- 4 South; especially Katie & Debra and Theda Care Hospice for the excellent care provided to Don during his illness.
