Doris M. Berna's Obituary
Doris M. Berna, age 84, of Waupaca, WI, passed away Sunday, November 9th, 2014 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born in Big Falls, WI on February 27, 1930, a daughter of the late Arnold and Adeline (Polzin) Hedtke.
Doris graduated from Marion High School the Class of 1947 as Salutatorian. She married Joseph S. Berna on September 17, 1949. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1952, while stationed on active duty in Korea. She later moved herself and two young daughters to Milwaukee and graduated from Medical Assistant Career Academy in Milwaukee on June 9, 1962 and worked as a Laboratory Tech until she became disabled. Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. She was a life member of VFW Auxillary Post 1037 and the American Legion. She started Big Falls VFW Auxillary Post 8770. Doris enjoyed reading, writing poetry, fishing, history, bowling, dancing to "good polka music," playing ball and watching Brewers baseball.
Survivors include her Daughters: Patricia (Ron) Radloff, Waupaca, WI; Jennifer Berna, Iola, WI; Five Grandchildren; Nine Great Grandchildren; one Great Great Granddaughter, Sister: Adeline Hedtke, Waupaca, WI; and a Brother: Frederick (Sue) Hedtke, Connecticut. She is further survived by numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - Joseph, a sister - Leola (Ken) Schertz, brother - Arnold (Joanne) Hedtke, in-laws - Joseph and Josephine Berna, one nephew and one niece, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca 11 AM on Saturday, November 15th, 2014, with Reverend Andy Behrendt officiating. Interment will be at Big Falls Cemetery, Town of Wyoming, Waupaca Co., WI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 9 AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Ladies Auxillary Post 1037 for a scholarship for Medical Students.
