Dorothy Shulfer's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Shulfer (Ostrowski), a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She peacefully departed this world on October 20th, 2023, at the age of 94, in her home in Amherst, WI surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on August 10th, 1929 to the late William and Veronica (Wawrzyniak) Ostrowski at home in the Town of Hull, WI. In her early years, Dorothy went to school for 1st through 3rd grade at Stony Ridge School in the Town of Hull. She started 4th grade at St. Casimir and then moved to St. Mary’s Mount Carmel Fancher through 6th grade. After graduating 8th grade from public school, she started working at The Frost Fly Factory.
Dorothy later met her husband, Gregory Shulfer through her brother Ray at a polka dance. Together they began a shared journey when they married on September 17th, 1949. They built a life around 13 children: Daniel (deceased), Marvin (Yvette Pauloski), Judy, Kathy, Jim (Delsie Baxter), Jerry (Joni Worzella), Kenny (Debbie Kolodziej), Nancy, Randy (Lisa Roberson), Duane (Diane Napiwocki), Sue (Pete Zoromski), Rick (Candee Glodowski-Eckberg), and Kevin (Kim Noltner). Along the way came the addition of 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; however, Gregory departed the journey on October 26th, 1989. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love with her 12 children and their growing families; along with sister, Henrietta; and in-laws Shirley and Greg. Dorothy was not only a loving mother, but a hard worker who was always busy on the farm or gathering and preserving food for her family. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan no matter the season. She found joy and peace in gardening, doing word searches and puzzles, playing cards, going to polka dances, and gladly embraced her guilty pleasure of viewing her show, Guiding Light, each day. She also enjoyed spending time with and nurturing her grandchildren. Dorothy was quite active at St. Mary Mount Carmel Church, being a member of The Ladies Rosary Society, singing in the church choir, and assisting with the church picnics.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Veronica; husband, Gregory; son, Daniel; brothers, Luke, Ray, and Chester; and sisters Helen, Sophie, Angelina, Agnes, and Esther.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday October 25, 2023 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Mount Carmel Fancher Church. Father Jerzy Rebacz will officiate. A visitation will be held on Tuesday October 24, 2023 from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI with a Rosary service at 7 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the mass at 11 A.M. at the church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Sue, Dawn, and Kayla and all of the Hospice staff who helped with the care of Dorothy over the last few years, and to Junger Holly Funeral Home for helping us through this difficult time.
