Douglas W. Houghton's Obituary
Douglas Warner Houghton, age 82 passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at his home in Wild Rose, WI. Doug “Hugga Hugga” was born in Marquette, MI on April 14, 1940 to Marvin and Margaret Jane Houghton. He grew up in De Pere, went to East De Pere High School and graduated in 1958. He attended UW-Madison for two years, then went on to UW-Oshkosh and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sociology in 1963. He married Judith L. Friex on June 15, 1963 in Green Bay, WI.
Doug was active in Boy Scouts from age 15 years to 23 years. He was Camp Craft Director at Bear Paw Scout Camp in Mountain, WI. He was also the Waterfront Director for two years at Twin Lakes Scout Camp in Waupaca, WI.
Doug was a sales rep at Kiekhaefer Outboard Marine, which sent his young family to New York State for five years. They missed Wisconsin, moved back and he had careers at Herff Jones, Thompson Life Securities and life insurance companies.
Doug enjoyed deer hunting, bird hunting with his dogs, trout fishing, camping and his motorcycle adventures. His favorite past-time was being in nature and spending time with his many friends. We will all miss his jolly personality, big smile and great sense of humor.
Doug is survived by his wife, Judy Houghton of Wild Rose, WI; son, Douglas (Gale) Houghton Jr. of Berlin, WI; daughters, Heidi Houghton of Waupaca, WI; Heather (Scott) LaFreniere of Wild Rose and Marathon, FL; and Paige Houghton of Waupaca, WI; seven grandchildren, nephew David (Keri) Williams of Minneapolis, MN; and his step-mother, Evelyn Houghton of Wautoma, WI; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Williams, brother-in-law, Richard Williams and his grandson, Zackary Zabel.
It was Dougs wish to have no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Holly Funeral Home of Wild Rose is assisting the family with arrangements.
