Dr. Rodney Wichmann's Obituary
Rodney D. Wichmann, age 83, of Wild Rose, WI, passed away Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 at his home. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on July 19, 1925, the son of Ray and Alice Wichmann. Rodney married Barbara Forsyth on July 25, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2006. Rodney served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Rodney Doc died with the love of four daughters ,11 grandkids, several family members and friends. He was a gentle, humble, generous man with a sharp mind and a quick wit. Rodney lived each day with optimism. Rodney served his country, in the Army, during World War II. He was a member of the VFW. Rodney's membership at Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Church spanned 55 years. He liked to play cards, discuss current events, socialize and seek new hobbies. He loved his daughters and his grandkids and they adored him. He also loved, deeply, his wife Barbara and his son Larry, who preceded him in death. Rodney also loved his vocation and his life mission as a family doctor. He and his childhood friend, Roger Kjentvet, had a medical practice that served thousands. They worked together as friends and colleagues from 1954 until their retirements in 1990. Roger died in 2005. Rodney served with love, grace and good humor. His legacy of service remains throughout the community. Rodney lived a magnificent 83 yr. life. He lived fully and he died well. He is survived by Daughters: Lynne Wichmann, Wild Rose, WI; Lee Ann (Robert Ponto) Wichmann, Eugene, OR; Lisa (Kenneth) LaClair, La Plata, MD; Silvia (Mike) Carter, Wild Rose, WI; Grandchildren: Alyson (Anthony) Luchini; Elizabeth Bechard; Jon Bechard; Ryan, Anna, and Kaaren Pronto; Danielle and Alex LaClair; Andrea, Sammy, and Jenny Carter; Family Friends: Pat Wagner, Appleton, WI; Dale Bechard, Appleton, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Barbara; Son, Lawrence, and a Sister, Beverly Schmidt. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Mount Morris Holden Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Pastor Todd Murken officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Morris Holden Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 until 7PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose and on Wednesday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to the Wild Rose Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund and to the American Cancer Society.
