Earl C. Breunig
Waupaca, WI Age 76 – died peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI after a 10 month battle with cancer. He was born on November 7, 1931 in Waunakee, WI, the son of Reynold and Viola (Blum) Breunig. He married Virginia M. Liegel on November 6, 1950 in Baraboo, WI. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2004. They had been married for 53 years. Earl is survived by his children; Dennis (Pat) Breunig of Waunakee, WI, Jeff (Myra) Breunig of Athol, ID, Kathy Kuchenbecker of Madison, WI, Laurie (Greg) Regge of Garden Prairie, IL, Sheri Finch of Madison, WI, and Robin (Paul) Hasenberg of Sun Prairie, WI, grandchildren; Nick and Dan Breunig, Chris and Emily Kuchenbecker, Sarah and Michael Regge, David and Zach Finch, and Alex and Ashton Hasenberg, sisters; Gerry (Don) Dahmen, Louise Eckstein, Diane (Gene) Zander, and Judy (Stan) Rauls, and brothers; Leon (Karen) Breunig and Dale “Butch” Breunig. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his wife; Virginia, his granddaughter; Christina Marie Regge, his parents; Reynold and Viola Breunig, a brother; Larry Breunig, and a brother-in-law; Jerry Eckstein. Earl was a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, WI. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from October 26, 1950 until he was honorably discharged on September 25, 1954. He had been employed as an insurance agent with the American Family Insurance Company for about 25 years. Earl loved music and had played in a country/western band called Funky Country for 35 years, performing at many different types of functions with dozens of musicians. After moving to Waupaca, Earl and Virginia performed together and were known as Half-A-Band, performing at nursing homes in the area. He brought music into the lives of his children and inspired a life-long love of music. He was an avid Johnny Cash fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He did everything he could to take care of his wife during her last seven years as she struggled with progressive supranuclear palsy, a very debilitating disease. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, WI on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 12:00 PM, with Father Brian Belongio, Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Waupaca. Friends may call at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until noon. A memorial has been established in the name of Earl C. Breunig. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. “Poetry is for the Heart – Music is for the Soul”
