Edward McNamara Jr.'s Obituary
Ed (Butch) McNamara died on Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton, WI. He was born in Madison, WI, son of the late Edward John and Alice (Powers) McNamara and attended Edgewood High School where he was selected for the All City Football Team. He graduated in 1951 and then attended U.W. Madison from 1951 - 1955 earning a B.A. in physical education. He lettered in baseball in college and also was a member of the R.O.T.C. He served his country as a 1st Lt. In the Army during the Korean conflict. He was an outstanding multi-sport athlete. He played football, basketball, baseball, tennis and handball. In 1956 he married the former Nancy Dunstan, the mother of his five children; son Dan (Kathy) of Waterbury, CT, four daughters; Kathy (Steve) Gaertner of Edina, MN, Patty (T.Jay) Cullen of St. Louis Park, MN, Peggy (Mike) Schelble of Alameda, CA and Kelly of Minneapolis, MN. In 1989 he married Sally Maves. Ed loved his family, the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, playing cards, his faithful dog, Casey and a good conversation. In his retirement years Ed and Sally enjoyed travel to Ireland, China, Mexico and the Carribean. He found happiness spending time with his children and step-children; Tom (Tory) Maves of Neenah, WI, Sheri (Phil) Mayer of Moraga, CA, Kathy (Jeff) Pagel of Winter Haven, FL, Judy (Mike) Maves-Klatt of Port Townsend, WA and Barb (Clarence) Timm of Appleton, WI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cahterine and an infant brother. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sally McNamara and his five children, five step-children and 16 grandchildren. He will be missed by many friends & relatives. Visitaion will be held at Holly Funeral Home - Waupaca Wednesday December 13 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14th at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Community prior to the 1:00 p.m. Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
