EDWARD J. SPANBAUER
WAUPACA, WI Age 84 – died on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. He was born in Oshkosh, WI on July 28, 1920, a son of the late John J. and Valeria (Celichowski) Spanbauer. He married Dorothy L. Woody on February 20, 1943 in Oshkosh, WI. Ed is survived by his wife: Dorothy, two daughters: Carlene (Steve) Cummings of Bonita Springs, FL, and Barbara Peterson of Middleton, WI, a son: Charles E. Spanbauer of Waupaca, WI, and five grandchildren: Scott A. Cummings of Fort Myers, FL, Steven E. (Amanda) Cummings of Bonita Springs, FL, Matthew D. Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT, David J. Peterson of Middleton, WI, and Chelsea A. Spanbauer of Waupaca, WI. Ed is also survived by three sisters: Jeanette (Vernon) Ruppel of Oshkosh, WI, Margaret Gawaresky of Oshkosh, WI, Irene Mueller of Oshkosh, WI, and a brother: John (Mary) Spanbauer of Oshkosh, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Helen Spanbauer and Dorothy Spanbauer, and a brother: Lawrence Spanbauer. Edward and Charles Woody brought Woody's Cheese Co. to Waupaca in 1955 as Waupaca's first industrial park business. They owned an operated the business until 1973 when they sold it to Anderson Clayton Foods, now owned by Kraft Foods. Ed had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps stationed in Scotland from August 12, 1942 until October 16, 1945. He served many years as an alderman on Waupaca's City council and invested countless hours as a citizen working with city government. Edward was a 3rd Degree Mason and was afilliated with his Lodge in Green Bay throughout his life. Throughout his retirement you would see Ed with his fishing boat in tow to enjoy a day walleye fishing. A memorial service will be held during the summer of 2005. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI assisted the family with arrangements. A memorial Fund has been established in his name to further the ministries at Faith Community Church.
