Edwin Carr's Obituary
Edwin (Eddie) H. Carr Eddie Carr, 85, of Amherst Junction, WI, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on March 19, 2007. He was born on March 01, 1922 to the late Lloyd and Leona (Krueger) Carr in Pittsville, WI. He graduated from Pittsville High School in 1940. On June 01, 1946 he married Dolores (Dolly) Trinrud at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church. She survives.
Eddie worked for the Green Bay and Western Railroad as a depot agent from 1941 until his retirement in 1983. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 14, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Dec. 03, 1945. He was in the 563rd Signal Battalion attached to the 4th Army Division under General George Patton. He was in the Battle of the Bulge, the Invasion of France 10-14 days after D-Day, and he was with the troops that liberated the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He received the European Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver Battle Star, 4 Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Metal.
He played baseball with the Tri City and the Scandinavia Vikings teams for many years. He also coached the Scandinavia Vikings and the Lake Emily Inn girl’s softball team. He and Dolly managed the concession stand for the Scandinavia Vikings for 18 years. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers and the Badgers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to baseball games, bowling, gardening, and sharing his bountiful garden with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He served as President of the village of Amherst Junction and was on numerous committees for the village. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Amherst VFW and the Tomorrow River Conservation Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dolly, his three daughters; Linda (Phil) Pionkowski and Julie (Dave) Sopa of Amherst Junction, and Deb (Tom) Hojnacki of Plover, two sons; Steve (Cindy) of Amherst Junction, and Brian of Scandinavia, eight grandchildren; Mark Pionkowski and Scott (Deb) Pionkowski, Tim and Leanne Carr, Erica (fiancé John Ciulla) and Joel Hojnacki and Rebecca and Brandon Sopa, two step-grandchildren; Scott (Tammy) and Jason (Jill) Sopa, three great-grandchildren; Ashley, Bridget, and Michael Pionkowski, and five step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Orville (Bucky) Carr, and his sister, Alice Carr.
Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI on Saturday March 24, 2007 at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend Dwight Anderson, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery in Scandinavia, WI. A visitation will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, WI on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund in memory of Eddie Carr. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Dad, we will miss your quick wit, your mischievous smile, that twinkle in your eye, and all the love you gave us.
