Eldred "Elgie" Stillman's Obituary
Eldred "Elgie" O. Stllman, age 86 was called to glory on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his home in Waupaca. Eldred was born on March 15, 1928 in the Town of Royalton, the youngest child of the late Emil & Gladys (Buehler) Stillman. Elgie and his siblings became foster children of Oscar & Claire Modeen at a young age. The Modeen's raised them as their own children. He worked on their farm through his adolescent years.
He began attending Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1937 and was confirmed in 1942. He remained a lifelong member of Immanuel.
Eldred served his country in World War II from 1945 to 1947 as a member of the US Navy on the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt as a Seaman 2nd Class. On June 10, 1950, he married Joyce Pomerenke sharing 58 years of marriage before her death on May 16, 2009. Eldred was a fun loving husband, father and grandfather.
He retired in 1990 from the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King after 36 years of service. Eldred enjoyed all Wisconsin sports teams, hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Scott & Sue Stillman, Appleton; his granddaughters, Robyn Stillman, Milwaukee and Jamie Stillman, Appleton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his foster parents, his wife, his father and mother in law, a brother Wallace (Delores) Stillman, a sister Marian (Gaylord) Forseth, a brother in law, Edgar Pomerenke Jr and a sister in law, Lorraine (Delmar) Bricko.
A Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 12 Noon at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 1120 Evans Street, Waupaca with Reverend Loren Fritz, officiating. Per Eldred's wishes, cremation has already taken place. Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday morning from 10 AM until noon at the church. Interment with Military rites will be in the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, WI. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the medical staffs at Affinity Medical Group, Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, the Veterans Administration, and Bright Star for the excellent care they provided Eldred over the years.
