Elisabeth A. Sharkey's Obituary
Elisabeth A. Sharkey age 88 of Iola, formerly of Stevens Point, WI died peacefully on July 20, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Detroit Mi, on February 19, 1929. She was raised by her aunt and uncle Mary Ann and Joseph Sharkey. They moved to Amherst WI in 1955.
Elisabeth worked at Sentry Insurance for 37 years and retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Big Brother - Big Sister organization for 12 years. She was a mentor for multiple little sisters, and remained close to those girls her entire life. "Little Sister" Becky Manowski and her family became real family to Elisabeth.
She enjoyed writing and sending cards, especially to sick or elderly friends who were home bound or in nursing homes. She also loved company, playing cards and going out to eat with friends. "Grandma Liz" always had a full candy dish and a cupboard full of games and toys ready for the many children who visited her. She became a part of the Gerald Shanklin family nearly 50 years ago, and was like another sister to Ruby, and an extra Grandma to dozens. Heather Boyle was her very special family caretaker for the last 8 years. She moved into Living Oaks Assisted Living Center in 2009, and was a very active member of that community. She called Bingo for years and enjoyed music and spending time with all her many friends there.
Elisabeth was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle.
