Elmer L. Johnson
Waupaca, WI
age 101 – passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca. He was born on August 21, 1911 in the Township of Belmont, Portage County, WI, the son of Peter Lars and Anna (Olson) Johnson. He married Arlene Bousfield on May 9, 1941 in the Township of Dayton, Waupaca County, WI, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage this year.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Arlene, sons: David (Vickie) Johnson of Denmark, and LeRoy (Cheryl) Johnson of Appleton, grandchildren: David (Kristen) Johnson, Jr of Pulaski, Tisha (Chris) Sutherland of Appleton, Benjamin Johnson of Forest Jct., SSGT. Amy (Richard) McGuinness of North Las Vegas, NV, and LeRoy Johnson, II of Neenah, and great grandchildren: Garrett Johnson, Elliott Johnson, and Evan Sutherland. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
Elmer had been a Dairy Farmer in rural Waupaca for many years. He had been a member of the Parfreyville United Methodist Church since 1960. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing, especially going fishing with his grandchildren. He had been a member of the Chain O’ Lakes Conservation Club and had been active with the Grange. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and playing Dartball for the Lutheran League.
A funeral service will be held at the Parfreyville United Methodist Church in Waupaca, WI on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Robert Blackburn – Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Parfreyville Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the charity of your choice in memory of Elmer L. Johnson. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
