Emily A. Pagel's Obituary
Emily A. Pagel, age 84 of Almond, WI passed away on Monday, January 29th at Marshfield Hospital in the Critical Care Unit with her family by her side. After a month-long treatment for a bacterial infection in her lungs, she contracted Influenza A. It proved to be too much for her respiratory system.
Emily was born March 7, 1933 in a farmhouse in the small community known as Meehan, in the Township of Plover. Her parents were Frank and Amelia (Wolosek) Hutkowski. They moved their family to farm in the Pittsville area. In 1939 they moved back to Bancroft, WI. She attended the one-room Quentin rural school for her first year, then was transferred to Bancroft Public School. It was closed in 1948 so the classes were moved to Almond Public School, where she graduated in 1951.
Throughout her school years, Emily worked the summer months planting beans & cucumbers to sell at the factory in Bancroft. She also worked for a company riding a stripper for 2 weeks that harvested the blue grass seeds from the hay fields to be used for planting grass in yards. Another job she had was picking milk weed pods which were sold to the government to make parachutes. She lived by the creek along Mill Road where the pods were plentiful.
After graduation she went to work at Zwicker Knitting Mill in Waupaca where she lived in a small apartment. She loved attending polka dances where she met her husband Kenneth. They married on December 1, 1951 and enjoyed 62 years together.
She loved watching sports on TV. Packers, Brewers, Olympics, and NASCAR. Her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr. She also loved her travels to Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Alaska.
She says her most treasured memories were festive family gatherings. She had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren to fill her home with love and laughter, especially playing cards and other games with them.
Emily is survived by her children: Dennis (Cindy) Pagel, Almond; Alan (Mickie) Pagel, Almond and Cathy Zanto, Wautoma; her ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Jennifer (Joe) Jakubek, Johnathan and Jayden Jakubek; Shelly (Nate) Somers, Easton and Kira Somers; Jordan (fiancé Kaity) Pagel; Tyler Warner; Brian (Lisa) Warner, Ashton, Scarlett and Isla Warner; Brandon (Lynzi) Warner; Alan II (Amy) Pagel; Kevin (Hannah) Pagel; Jaclyn Zanto; Steven Zanto; her son-in-law Reed Warner, Almond; brother Ammery Hutkowski, Stevens Point; and sister-in-law Adeline Bork, Ashwaubenon. She is further survived by numerous relatives and friends. Emily was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her parents, her daughter Karen Warner, her brothers Joseph, Felix, Daniel, Valerian, Edward, Anthony, Sylvester and Bennie; her five sisters Regina, Clara, Angeline, Sophie and Marion as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Christian Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 3 at 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Almond with Reverend Brian Roehrborn officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday evening from 4 to 7 PM and from 9:30 to 10:45 AM before the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in the CCU/MICU at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. We could not have asked for a more compassionate group of professionals to care for Emily in her final days. Last but not least, is Emily's special friend Kelly Tuszke. She looked forward to her weekly visits to the salon, not only for the service but to talk and laugh until they both were in tears.
A memorial will be established in Emily A. Pagel's name for St. John's Lutheran Cemetery for repairs and improvements.
