ERNEST N. GOLLA
OGDENSBURG, WI (FORMERLY OF APPLETON, WI) Age 78 – died on October 14, 2006 at the Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. He was born on December 11, 1927 in the Township of Hull, Portage County, WI, a son of the late Anton and Anna (Kontney) Golla. He married Agnes Kawleski on July 6, 1946 at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point, WI. They had just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Ernest is survived by his wife: Agnes, two daughters: Grace (Gordon) Smith of Apple Valley, CA, and Nancy (Don) Westfahl of Waupaca, WI, two sons: Terrence (DeAnn) Golla of Appleton, WI, and Kevin Golla of Ogdensburg, WI, four grandchildren: Robert and Andrew Golla, and Nick and Megan Lynch, all of Appleton, WI, four sisters: Cecelia Feltz of Stevens Point, WI, Alice Smith of King, WI, Virginia Zblewski of Amherst, WI, and Delores Groshek of Amherst Jct., WI, and a brother: Greg Golla, Sr. of Stevens Point, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Ernest served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. He spent some of his service time on the USS Ticonderoga. He was also stationed in Pensacola, FL and Norfolk, VA. After returning to Wisconsin and settling in Kimberly, WI he was employed with the Appleton Paper Co. – Combined Locks Mill. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Papermaker’s Union (UPIU) – Local 144. In 1996 he and Agnes moved to Ogdensburg, WI, where Ernie enjoyed growing vegetables and fruits. He was a gifted gardener. Ernie was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, WI. He had also been a member of the American Legion Post #161 – King, WI. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic church in Waupaca, WI on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 10:00 AM, with Father Roy Geenen, officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Waupaca, WI. Friends may call at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, and at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Ernest N. Golla. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Ernie’s humor and generosity will be sadly missed.
