Ernie Lindgren's Obituary
Ernest G. Lindgren, age 84 of Waupaca, WI died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 19, 2005. He was born on June 10, 1921 in Chicago IL. Educated at Lane Technical High School, he earned his architectural degree at Illinois Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II, beginning at Oran – then through Italy, ending in Salzburg and arriving home December 31, 1945. The next morning he sat with his parents at church eyeing the new organist, Jane Anderson. He wangled an introduction and proposed December 1946. Ernie and Jane married July 19, 1947 and moved to Wheaton, IL, where he built their house himself and established an architectural business concentrating on the Town’s Grade and Junior High Schools and many municipal buildings. Three children were born to them: Diane Forsythe, Karen (Bruce) Nelson, Bron (Tuula) Lindgren and eight grandchildren: Jon (Christa) Forsythe, Kerstin (Kevin) Todd, Eric and Keith Nelson, Mars and Brittany Lindgren, and Saara and Emilia Snow. Four siblings survive: Alice Johnson, Ruth Clemmons, Carol Bergman, and Earl Lindgren. Ernie was an avid bicyclist, skier, and walker. He and Jane, his wife of 58 years, enjoyed many European trips, the latest six weeks ago. Active at Trinity Lutheran Church, he was on the Buildings and Grounds Committee for years, served on council, and sang in the choir and men’s chorus. He was on the Board of Winchester Academy, on the program committee, and committed to their adult education program. He also served on the Chain of Lakes’ Zoning Commission. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 26 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Sean Motley officiating. Memorial Visitation will be at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Friday, November 25 from 5 – 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated for Trinity Lutheran Church and Winchester Academy.
