Esther Marie Bicknase
Stevens Point, WI (Formerly of Amherst, WI) Age 84 – died on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Wellington Place in Stevens Point, WI. She was born on June 24, 1924 in Florenton, MN, the daughter of John and Marie (Tylar) Jauhola. She married Walter H. Bicknase on September 14, 1946 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1983. Esther is survived by three daughters; Linda (David J.) Dombrowski of Amherst, Karen (David R.) Dombrowski of Amherst Jct., and Sandra (Bruce) Groshek of Amherst, three sons; Walter (Marcy) Bicknase of Northridge, CA, Wayne (Maureen) Bicknase of Tucson, AZ, and Michael (Peggy) Bicknase of Amherst, step-daughters; Ruth Hoover of Williston, FL, Dorothy (Harry) Elvey of Hemet, CA, Grace (Steve) Krstich of Warner Springs, CA, Donna Feitsma of Warner Springs, CA, and Nancy Reese of Wisconsin Rapids, and step-sons; Earl (Harleen) Bicknase of Polk, NE, Richard (Karen) Bicknase of Gastonia, NC, and Robert (Carol) Dorband of Margate, FL. She is further survived by 45 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her husband Walter, a son Mark, step-children Mabel Dorband and Elsie Bicknase, ten grandchildren, her parents, a brother, a sister, and a foster brother. Esther had been a homemaker for most of her adult life. She had worked as a certified nursing assistant at the former Amherst Nursing Home for about five years. She had also worked as a custodian in the Amherst School System for about two years. She had been a longtime member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and doing embroidery work. She was a very loving person, and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need A funeral service will be held at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church in Nelsonville, WI on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Gretchen Anderson, officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst. A visitation will be held at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church on Thursday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in the name of Esther M. Bicknase. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
