Esther Mattice's Obituary
Esther M. Mattice, age 88, of Wild Rose, WI, was called to her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 at the Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital. She was born in the Town of Rosendale, Fond du Lac County, on April 5, 1919, the daughter of Ewald and Josephine (Katarzynski) Gomoll. Esther graduated from Redgranite High School in 1937, and attended Waushara County Teachers College (County Normal). She taught rural schools in Waushara and Adams counties. On June 9, 1942, Esther was united in marriage to Glen H. Mattice in San Francisco, CA, while Glen served in the U.S. Army. She lived in Sausalito, CA until June of 1943 when Glen was sent to serve over seas. When he returned in 1945, they farmed near Omro for 3 years before moving to their farm near Wild Rose in 1949. Glen passed away in November of 1999, after 57 years of marriage. Esther was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wild Rose, and was a strong witness to her faith. She was active in the church's Fellowship Society, the Altar Guild, and the ladies quilting group. She had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Esther also participated in open class entries at the Waushara County Fair for over 40 years, during which time she won numerous blue ribbons and several Grand Champion ribbons in various classes. She also sold Stanley Home Products for over 50 years. Esther loved to garden, especially loved flowers -- and the color purple! She was a very loving wife and mother, and was very proud of her grandsons. Esther is survived by daughters: Patricia (Harold Bud) Cutts-Thompson, Redgranite, WI; Margaret (Matthew) Young, Springbrook, WI; grandchildren: Christopher (Beth) Cutts, Wild Rose, WI; Geoffrey (Robin Rice) Cutts, Waupaca, WI; Gregory Stoddart, Springbrook, WI; Jesse Stoddart, Spooner, WI; great-granddaughter: Makayla Stoddart; sisters-in-law; Marion J. Gomoll; Marian Gomoll; brothers and sisters-in-law: Peter Mattice; Alfred and Betty Mattice; Charles and Shirley Rodgers; Robert and Wanita Mattice; god-daughters: Helen (Tony) Souder; Joan (Ronald) Kenowski; Donna (Ross) Miller. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends, especially those of her christian family of the St. Paul congregation. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; an infant sister; four brothers, John, Erich, Harvey and William Gomoll. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wild Rose, with Reverend Dale Bahls officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Oak Hill Cemetery in Wild Rose. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday from 4 PM until 7 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose and again on Sunday from 1PM until the time of the service at the church. Holly Funeral Home
