Esther E. West
Waupaca, WI
Age 94 – died on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. She was born on November 9, 1915 in Waupaca, WI, the daughter of William and Anna (Brandenburg) Knueppel. She married Elwyn West on June 5, 1941 in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1995.
Esther is survived by her daughter; Carol West-Dahl of Waupaca, grandchildren; Larry Dahl of Canon City, CO, Lori Dahl of Anchorage, AK, Melanie Dahl of Denver, CO, Lwyn Dahl of Pinedale, WY, Dr. Debra West of Scandinavia, and Gary West of Waupaca, great grandchildren; Nicole and Lilian Dahl, and Trevor and Trisha West. Esther is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; Elwyn, her son; Roy West, six brothers, and three sisters.
Esther was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Waupaca. She had been a self-employed pilot for many years. Many area residents enjoyed the West Game Farm in Lind Center which Elwyn and Esther owned and operated for over 40 years. Esther had managed the original Outagamie County Airport from 1938 – 1950. She had also been employed with the former Woody’s Cheese Factory in Waupaca. Esther had served with the Civil Air Patrol during WW II. She enjoyed the many years she was active with the Lind Center Homemaker’s Group, and the Waupaca Senior Citizens.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Waupaca, with the Reverend Martin Rich, officiating. Interment will be in the Lind Center Cemetery, Township of Lind, Waupaca County, WI. A visitation will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, and at the church on Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to either the Calvary Lutheran Church, or to Theda Care at Home Hospice in the name of Esther E. West. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
Esther’s family also extends a heartfelt Thank You to the staff of Theda Care at Home Hospice for making it possible for Esther to remain in her home until the end.
